I came across the following quote today and simply had to share it. So much truth.
“The Christian life can be explained only in terms of Jesus, and if your life as a Christian can still be explained in terms of you – your personality, your willpower, your gift, your talent, your money, your courage, your scholarship, your dedication, your sacrifice, or your anything – then although you may have the Christian life, you are not yet living it! … True Godliness leaves the world convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the only explanation for you, is Jesus Christ.” – Ian Thomas
I find this particular thought both inspiring and challenging – the very sin nature of our human selves is so. . . well, self-focused. It’s easy to be all about yourself and not realize it. Self-protection, self-seeking, I-want-what-I-want attitudes are common in today’s spoiled society. But there is so much more. There is something, Someone, who is so much bigger than we. Who cares so much more than we do. Who has such great things in store for us if we seek Him and put Him first. God is truly amazing. We are His workmanship, created in His image. That’s a high calling.
May it so be with me,
If you lay gold in the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brook [considering them of little worth], And make the Almighty your gold and [the Lord] your precious silver treasure, Then you will have delight in the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God. – Job 22:24-26 AMP
